Hi loves! I recently added a new series to my beauty channel called “Hair Tip Tuesday”. This is where I will be answering all of your hair care questions and giving you the answers on how to get healthier hair. Below is my first video to the series and I’m going to be explaining why your hair is still breaking and why the products you are using aren’t helping. (See video below). I wanted to take a little more time to explain this theory and why I believe my you CAN fix it! Let me explain.
One of the most common things people do “fix” hair breakage is to run out and grab the popular hair oil of the moment. You know; One minute its Argon oil, then its Moroccan oil, next it Olive oil. They All work for a limited time then you notice the hair starts breaking and shedding again. Why is this you may ask? It’s because you hair is still DRY! (insert a confused face). Let me break it down for you.
Hair oils are used as sealant! Remember this as I explain my theory! A sealant is basically a way to smooth out the hair strand to make the hair more manageable. This is what oils, serums, and cremes are designed to do. To make the hair more manageable while styling. NOW, these products do not change the condition of your hair. In order to change the condition of the hair you must CONDITION the hair! How simple right! The type of conditioner you use should be based on what you hair needs. Does it need shine, or does it need strength? Now I don’t want to make this post long and drawn out but there are different types of conditioners and they all do different things. So I will list some of the conditioners and do a separate post on how what they are good for.
Moisturizing, Hydrating, Purifying, Protein, Clarifying, and many more.
The theory is you can’t SEAL in what’s not there. I.E conditioner. How can you seal moisture in the hair if your not conditioning your hair properly? The answer is, YOU CAN’T! You can buy the most expensive serum and cremes and apply them to you hair but if it has nothing to latch on to as soon as you wash your hair your money is going down the drain with it! Your hair needs moisture. You get that from your diet, water and conditioning. Oils and serums only give the hair SHINE. Your hair can he shiny and still DRY! I know, I know shocking right!
Here’s a quick science lesson: Oils and serums have a large molecular molecule. In comparison to the hair strand, the products formula is not designed to penetrate the hair follicle. It’s molecule is to large to fit. So it will just sit on TOP of the strand. This is why as soon as you wash you hair the product rinses out in the sink and you hair doesn’t remain smooth and shiny.
OK so now that we learned Bio101 I can wrap this up! This is the reason why the hair dryer is key in you deep conditioning. The heat from the dry opens the follicle so the conditioner can penetrate. Oils, serums, and cremes can’t do that on their own. So what have we learned today!
1. Why hair oils won’t fix the dryness.
2. How to properly condition your hair.
3. Different hair conditioners.
4. A science lesson lol
5. In order to stop breakage you have to seal in the moisture from deep conditioning using oils and serums!
I hope this post helps you learn the correct what to condition your hair. Let me know if you would like to learn the different types of conditioners and which conditioners I recommend!
