Dermalogica SkinCare Product Review

June 6, 2017 beauty

Ok, let’s get our skin care regime in check shall we!

Over the last couple of weeks I have been fortunate enough to test out some new skin care products. Dermalogica was gracious enough to send me a complete skin care regimen and I have been testing it out on my skin ever since. One thing I don’t think I will ever get tired of is new skin care products and shoes. I mean because they are equal right? Nevertheless I have been testing out the complete system and today I want to give you my thoughts on each product. If you are new here to my blog I’m just going to give you a little backstory on my skin type. So that you understand the bases of my review today. I am acne prone and I experience hyper-pigmentation quite easily. I’m typically oily in my tea zone and I also have dry patches on certain spots of my face. This is typically seasonal but there nonetheless. I must be careful with the products I use because I can end up looking like a pizza face complete with toppings in 24 hours, and honey that is not cute! So without further ado let’s jump into today’s product review as I break down each product.

Dermalogica Product Break Down:

Dermalogica PreCleanse: I typically use the pre-cleanse on days that I film my YouTube tutorials or when I wear makeup to and event or a special occasion. It was a great way to break up the make up before I would use the special cleanser to wash my face. If you use a makeup removing wipes then this step is not necessary.

Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel: Right after using the pre-clease to break up the make up I would apply the special cleansing gel to my face with my Clarisonic face brush. I felt that I got a deeper clean while using the brush versus using only my hands. This cleansing gel did not dry my skin but I feel that it works best after using the pre-clearance to remove make up. My skin felt cleaner, maybe the double cleanse works best with this system.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant: This product is by far my favorite of the entire collection. I love that I was able to exfoliate my skin every day without any sensitivity. This exfoliate is rice-based so it gently removes dead skin and debris from the surface of your skin. It also helps me with cell turnover and I noticed that when I apply my moisturizers he didn’t sit on top of the skin as they usually do prior to using this product.

Dermalogica  Replenishing Oil: I would say I have a love-hate relationship with the replenishment oil. The bottle applicator I was not too fond of as I had to shake it in order to get the product to dispense from the bottle which for me was a bit cumbersome especially when they recommend you mix the Replenishing Oil and Active Moist together. Also it did take a couple of minutes for the product to penetrate my skin versus other facial oil’s that I have so I did notice a difference. I will say that the replenishing oil did hydrate my skin. But you have to be consistent with applying the oil each night and in all fairness I did not apply the oil each night.

Dermalogica Active Moist: This was my least favorite product out of the collection. As a facial moisturizer I didn’t feel it held up to the standards of the other products. Now as recommended I did combine the Replenishing Oil and Active Moist to my skin at the same time for a better nightly moisturizer. The active moist on its own did not deliver the results I was looking for. This is a very lightweight moisturizer so I believe it works great under your make up however for my nighttime regimen it was not moisturizing enough.

Dermalogica Hydrablur Primer: This facial primer applied to the skin very smoothly and it did help to blur my pores. Remember I am acne prone so my pores are quite large. I was able to see a noticeable difference after applying the hydra blur. However, I am not able to use it solely on it’s own. I did try to use it one day and my make up only lasted for about two hours before I started to notice it moving around on my skin. For my skin type I would recommend combining this facial primer with a matte based facial primer or spray.  Update 6/13/17. I have been using this primer just to smooth out my skin without makeup and it erases my pores. It still doesn’t leave me matte however mixing it with another primer does the trick.

Conclusion:

Pros: My skin is noticeably more radiant and hydrated. I’m experiencing less breakouts and the dry patches around my nose and temples have disappeared. Also I must mention, with the use of the replenishing oil my skin hasn’t been as oily. My favorite product from the entire collection has to be the Daily Microfoliant. I fell in love with this product the first night I tried it. It took me a while to understand the concept of a powder like exfoliator but once I applied the product and rinsed it off skin was soft to the touch and not irritated. This is a wonderful product for acne prone skin like mines. Gentle and effect.

Cons: I was not that impressed with the Active Moist moisturizer, I have other products that I feel moisturizer my skin better and are less expensive. Moreover, the Hydrablur primer was also a hit or miss for me. Since I have oily skin this primer would be reserved for the evening. In combination to my matte finishing spray I was able to get great results but alone it wasn’t enough to get me through the day.

Retail Prices: Dermalogica PreCleanse $42, Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel $37, Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant $55, Dermalogica Phtyo Replenish Oil $75, DermalogicaActive Moist $38,Dermalogica  Hydrablur Facial Primer $47

Crochet Braids:

One of my favorite styles. It’s also a great way to incorporate different textures and colors to the hair without damage. So for me this is my go to hairstyle when I want to switch it up. I have been wanting red hair again for a couple of weeks and I did not feel like coloring my virgin hair extensions to get it. So I decided crochet braids would be my best option. One thing I like to do to my hair is experiment. As a cosmetologist I try to find different ways to reinvent the wheel so to speak. So today I will be showing you how I came up with this “Flip Over” method with crochet braids. I love the results of this technique and it’s a great way to protect your hair further while wearing crochet braids.  If you haven’t done so already make sure you SUBSCRIBE to my Youtube channel for all beauty, fashion, and lifestyle videos.

Palmat 2in1 Makeup Brush Cleaning Tool

February 2, 2017 beauty

.Palmat mat

Who hates cleaning make up brushes? I know I do, as it’s such a tedious task. With the amount of make up brushes I use daily for work and filming tutorials. It feels like a part-time job just cleaning them. That’s where the Palmat comes in to save the day. Now don’t get me wrong as a avid make up brush collector, I thoroughly enjoy looking at beautiful clean make up brushes. I just don’t like cleaning them myself. So when I had a chance to review the new make up brush mat by Palmat it was right on time. I also took this opportunity to enlist the services of my five year old daughter. Mommy can always use a extra set of hands since she loves to be mommy’s little helper.

The Palmat is a 2 in 1 brush cleaning tool that helps to deep clean your make up brushes. Made out of silicone the Palmat has adjustable straps to fit around your hand as well as suction cups to adhere to your sink for hands-free cleaning. The Palmat is great for travel and fits perfectly in any makeup bag or even a makeup kit for traveling artist as well as makeup enthusiast alike.

There are other brush clean the mats on the market. However, one great thing I like about this brush cleaning mat is that you are able to hold it in your hand. With the suction cups on the bottom of the mat it also fits perfectly in the sink or any flat surface. The price is also a major selling point at only $9.95. I have personally seen and own other make up brush mats that retail for over $50. This mat works the same way for a fraction of the cost. Surprisingly, the Palmat also has a two year warranty. Can’t beat that!

Make Up For Ever Artist Acrylip Lip Paints

January 31, 2017 beauty

makeupforever artist acrylip lipstick swatches

Make Up For Ever has released 10 new lipstick shades in bold beautiful colors. The Artist Acrylip collection features rich build able lip shades for the true lipstick lover. I had the opportunity to try out this collection of lip paints. This collection is unlike any thing I currently own. Where matte lips are still the rave, the Artist Acrylip paints takes the idea of a bold lip to a new level.

Artist Acrylip First Impressions:

The packaging I received was amazing. The Artist Acrylip paints arrived in a small metal tin reminiscent of a paint can. It also came with a metal can opener. How cute is that! Upon inspection the lip colors were very bright and beautiful. Definitely different from the my day to day colors I usually wear as I’m a nude girl through and through. Once I started to swatch these colors I noticed they are wonderful for creating your own signature colors.  I am all for customizing things so they are unique to you. The one word that came to mind when playing with this collection was Bold.

Formula:

Perfectly named after its name sake, paint. It has a very similar texture meaning, they are a solid in consistency and not runny. It dries semi matte also like a wall paint which I totally got a kick out of. The entire paint reference was just too cute for me.  It’s blends well like all of the other Makeup For Ever lip sticks yet it gives a matte like finish. It’s a cross between a lip gloss with no shine and a lip stain. The Artist Acrylip paints are definitely something that has me stepping out of my comfort zone. The formulation is so different from all of my lip colors I currently use but in a good way. I appreciate that the colors are not super matte and that they are not drying on the lips. Which is something that has me shying away from the matte lip craze. Moreover,  I like that this collection is bold and colorful. This formula is so pigmented that it only requires one drop for a even application. Even on lips as full as mine and that say’s a lot. One drop was more than enough. I would recommend applying the lip paints with a light hand and if possible use a lip brush for a flawless application.

Shade Selection:

I have a love hate relationship with the colors chosen for this collection. Maybe I’m a bit biased as I normally only wear nudes. I was hoping to at least have one nude shade. Since this formula is quite unique I wanted a shade I could wear everyday. I also would have loved to have a mixing medium such as a white shade. Since the lip paints are able to be customized a shade of white would have really took this collection to a new level. Think 4th grade art class and mixing the red and white to create pink. I get excited thinking about it. I am such a fan of custom anything. You are however still able to create custom colors with the Artist Acrylip collection. I mixed colors 301 and 401 and created a beautiful lip color.

Overview:

I can say with certainty I do not own any colors quite like this. The only downside to this collection that I can say is that these colors do you smear a little bit. When used with the corresponding lip liner you won’t have that problem.  MakeupForEver also has a Lip Line Perfector that helps with lipstick smearing which helps with any lipstick, or lip stain. Also worth noting, when I swatched the colors on my wrist they did move a bit. I would also like to mention when I tried to remove the color swatches with make up remover they did not budge, at all. If you take notice to the swatches below you will see my skin is still quite stained from removing the previous swatches. These are very reminiscent of a lip stain. But they have the staying power of any other matte lipstick on the market. Currently retailing for $24 dollars, you can purchase them by visiting Makeupforever.com, also available at Sephora.com.
