Off The List: Toronto Carnival 2018

August 9, 2018 lifestyle

Toronto Carnival 2018

Glitter, feathers, happy people, and lots and lots of dancing. This is my idea of a perfect birthday present and that’s exactly what I experienced over the weekend. Toronto’s Caribbean Carnival is the largest outdoor festival in North America. The city of Toronto comes alive with the sounds of Calypso, Soca, Salsa, Zouk, Reggae, Chutney, Steel Pan and Brass Bands. This event has been on my bucket list for ages. I have always been a huge fan of Caribbean music. As a child I grew up listening to reggae and over time fell in love with Soca music. When I tell you, I dance every single day… EVERY SINGLE DAY. I really wanted to cross somethings off my never-ending bucket/goal list this year. I mentioned in a previous post that I was crossing something of the list and it would be “colorful” well this was it.

Toronto Carnival 2018 Playing Mas is officially off the list! (Insert slow wine) I had the pleasure of doing just that this weekend by playing Mas in this year’s carnival. I’ve always wanted to wear the big feathers and celebrate the coming together of other cultures. It’s so much more to Carnival then the customs but for the sake of today’s post let’s just say it’s been a dream of mine for many years. The band I played Mas with was called Carnival Nationz. Within this band there a multiple section themes and my section had the theme Hero. You can see the differences with the customs that are worn by each section. It’s such a beautiful display of color. This is an actual judged event in which each band is judged on customs and creativity of themes. Carnival Nationz is the reigning champion for the last 8 years and I had the pleasure of playing with them this year. Below is a mini clip of me having a good time with my boo thang Alyssa as well a few pictures from the parade. Also if you would like to get more information on this event click HERE for more information.  What are you looking to cross of your goal list this year? I would love to hear from you. XO

Chimere Nicole Birthday 2018

Today is the day, a day of celebration, reflection, and thankfulness. It’s my birthday! I am over the moon excited. Honestly, not for the gifts or the praise but for the air that I breathe. I know a lot of people who did not live to see this milestone and I’m beyond blessed to be able to celebrate life today. I like to spend my birthday mornings with just me and my thoughts. That’s a little harder to do these days as my girls are just as excited to celebrate my birthday as I am. I’m expecting a few songs and dance moves this morning. I try my best to let my birthday be as peaceful and relaxing and do all the celebrating on the weekend.  This year I planned a day of shopping and a weekend of dancing. Remember the blog post from this Monday where I discussed goal setting and removing goals from the list. That is my plan this weekend and I can’t wait to share with you what the big plans are. They are quite “colorful”.

I wanted to do something a little different as it relates to birthday pictures this year. As you know by now I deemed this week Chimere’s week. Yes, I celebrated all week. Why not? Any who, I wanted to do grown and sexy for this years pictures but still keep it classy and for me that always means black. No matter how hard I try I can’t stray too far away from the color black. I love this dress because it hugs your curves just right and the train is gorgeous. It was a tad bit hard to walk upstairs with it but after you master the extra fabric you will love it. I haven’t worn a red lip in so long I decided to wear a throwback favorite, Mac’s Ruby Woo. Any avid makeup lover has this in their collection. I actually have three. Don’t judge me lol. I kept this look simple and paired it with my favorite patent leather pumps and a bracelet. I actually lift my ring at home but hey, I think I still pulled it off. I will be sure to enjoy this day and spend it with the people I love, let’s celebrate!

Fine As Wine: The Williamsburg Winery

August 1, 2018 fashion, lifestyle

It’s noon, somewhere right? Maybe not, but there’s always time for a wine tour. On my recent trip to Williamsburg Virginia, I made sure I had the opportunity to visit one of my favorite wineries. The Williamsburg winery expands across a 40-acre vineyard. The property also hosts multiple restaurants as well as a boutique hotel for guest who would like to extend their stay. The grounds of this vineyard are absolutely beautiful. I felt such a sense of calm and peace while walking the property. Now of course the wine I was drinking definitely helped with my mood but what can a girl say. I was floating on air and happy as can be. I am not a wine connoisseur by any means and I’m learning which wines my palette likes. As of right now I tend to go with the sweeter wines.

My absolute favorite wine made at WW is the Governor’s White. It is a Riesling wine which for me is the next best thing to Moscato. As I said I am not an avid wine drinker and I know referencing the two in the same sentence can be seen as blasphemy by some but what can I say. I’m learning over here! This wine is soooooo good as it has multiple flavors. You get touches of pineapple, passion fruit, plum, and strawberry. It’s very soft with fragrances of honey and hits your palette very smoothly. To me, it’s like the perfect summer afternoon wine that you can have with lunch with friends or even lounging by the pool. So of course, I had to purchase a few bottles for my trip home. I spent most of the day walking the property and just thinking about life and try to relax as much as possible. It’s funny, a afternoon stroll with a class of wine can do wonders to a girls mood. Sure did a number on me. XO

I knew I had the itch as soon as I started to record my first podcast. It was such a wonderful feeling to be able to express yourself on such an open forum for other to hear. As you know by now, I’m all for creating creative spaces to display one’s creativity. Say that five times fast lol. Aussie Miracle Curls Hair Collection

Aussie Miracle Curl Review ChimereNicole.com

Aussie Miracle Curl Collection

No matter where I go I will always be a hairstylist. I just can’t seem to escape it. Even on vacation I’m washing, deep conditioning, and a styling me my girls hair. Since we’ve been on vacation I’ve had to wash their hair everyday due to the pool water which is not normal for us. We typically stick to a once a week schedule. I was happy that this vacation I was fully prepared to maintain both me and my baby’s hair with the Aussie Miracle Curl collection.

Aussie Miracle Curls Collection is designed to provide moisture and protection for effortlessly gorgeous, moist curls! Great for all hair types who want deep conditioning, shine and moisture.

I was fortunate to receive the collection in the mail and family vacation was the perfect opportunity to put these products to the test. The Miracle Curl collection features seven different products catered to curly and coiled hair. Although I received the entire collection I only had the opportunity to test a few of the items to give you a thorough review.

MIRACLE CURLS SHAMPOO:

On a scale of 1 to 5 I would rate this Shampoo a 4. I was able to get a great lather with one application of product. I felt the shampoo gave me a through cleansing on my hair and scalp without leaving a residue or film on hair.

MIRACLE CURLS CONDITIONER:

I give this conditioner a 3 out of 5. Mainly because it was a instant conditioner and I typically skip over these types of conditioners all together. Every time I wash my hair I always deep condition or I invest in the hair mask and co wash products. I did also use this conditioner on my daughters without any problems. This product works best on loosely coiled hair.

MIRACLE CURLS CO-WASH:

My go to product this vacation. I loved that I was able to wash there hair daily without any issues and still maintain there curl patterns. This was a must have for me this past week. Complete time saver.

3 MINUTE MIRACLE MOIST:

This is the product I underestimated the most. I didn’t think I would notice and conditioning properties in 3 minutes. Boy was I was wrong… Truly hate saying that lol. I did notice a difference after using this product in comparison to the daily conditioner. My hair was softer and the curls bounced back after detangling.

3 MINUTE MIRACLE CURLS:

This product I did not have the opportunity to use however, I will update as soon as I try it.

MIRACLE CURLS LEAVE-IN DETANGLING MILK:

Baby!!! This is LIFE. My girls are four and six with tightly coiled hair and were swimming in the pool all day. So just imagine the tears I had to experience when detangling their hair. This hair milk helped me tremendously. After creating four sections I would apply the milk and SLOWLY comb out their curls. Worked like a charm.

MIRACLE CURLS CRÈME PUDDING:

Also another product I underestimated. This had just the right amount of slip to twist my hair as well as my girls. It did not leave my hair hard and gave me the perfect amount of definition. I wish this product came in a larger size with a pump. it would make it so much easier to use.
